ECG Complete Heart Block

  1. ECG findings-

  • Atrial rate- 80/min
  • Ventricular rate – 42/min
  • There are complete dissociation between P wave and QRS complex
  • P-P and R-R interval – constant
  1. Complete heart block

  2. Causes –

  • Ischemic heart disease
  • Cardiomyopathy
  • Drugs- beta blocker, digoxin
  • Cardiac surgery
  • Radiofrequency AV node ablation
  • Infiltrative – sarcoidosis, hemochromatosis
  • Congenital
  1. Sign-

  • Pulse – bradycardia, high volume
  • BP – high systolic, normal diastolic, wide pulse pressure
  • Neck vein – Cannon a wave
  • Variable intensity of 1st heart sound
  • Systolic flow murmur
  1. Treatment –

  • In case of symptomatic patient – permanent pacemaker
  • Treatment of the cause
