  1. CXR P/A view showing a cavity with air fluid level in the left upper and part of mid-zone.

  2. Presentation –

  • Respiratory- cough with foul smelling sputum, haemoptysis, chest pain
  • General – High grade fever with chills and rigor, profuse sweating, weight loss
  1. Investigations-

  • Complete blood count – polymorphonuclear leukocytosis, high ESR
  • Sputum for Gram stain, C/S (aerobic and anaerobic), AFB, fungus, malignant cell
  • RBS
  • Blood culture
  1. Complications-

  • Pleurisy
  • Empyema
  • Bronchiectasis
  • Cerebral abscess
